Lime pulls "Teacha's Pet" Sponsorship & Kartel continue to disgrace Dancehall.

ALLEGED witnesses in the high-profile murder case against ace deejay Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer have given conflicting statements to the Office of the Public Defender.

However, police sources say that investigators have reason to believe persons who have given counter-statements did so in fear of their lives. The police claim that information gathered in and around the Gregory Park area of St Catherine, as well as the 'Gaza' section of Waterford, unearthed acts of intimidation and threats being made against witnesses, including plain-clothes police personnel.

Public Defender Earl Witter when contacted yesterday afternoon gave a terse response in addressing the police's claims. "I make no comment whatsoever on what you tell me or what your police sources have told you," he said, refusing additional comment on the matter.

Allegations against the deejay are that he and other men had conspired to murder businessman Barrington 'Bossie' Burton, a 27-year-old promoter of a Gregory Park, St Catherine, address. Burton was shot while standing in the company of other persons along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park on July 11.

Vybz Kartel was arrested on September 30 and faces charges of conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of firearm and murder. The deejay was also slapped with a ganja possession charge after a quantity of the drug was found when he was picked up by police at a New Kingston hotel while in the company of three other persons, including a female.

He has since pleaded not guilty to the ganja possession charge and is set to face the court on the more serious offences.

In recent weeks, in addition to Vybz Kartel, Kyro Jones, André 'Mad Puss' St John and another man, known as 'Badda Dan' - all allegedly affiliated to the area known as Gaza - have been arrested in connection with other charges, including shootings and murders. Laingberg 'Laing' McDonald was also arrested on a separate charge.

Among the police's claims of witness intimidation is that on the morning of the identification parade in the murder case, gunmen staged an attack in the area where the murder took place.

In response, the St Catherine South police rounded up "all known members of the Gaza gang", adding that "people have been scurrying for their lives, not into hiding but to public legal offices, as a way of getting out of the case".

Police sources have described the actions as "a challenge to law and order and police control", which have led to a continuous operation against the Gaza gang in Portmore and other places islandwide.

The St Catherine South police have since established a strong presence in communities bordering 'Gaza' in Waterford and the Gregory Park area.

Teacha’s Pet is still up in the air following communication giant LIME‘s withdrawal of their sponsorship.

A decision has yet to be made as to whether the show will be discontinued or simply aired without the corporate backing of the company. According to Teacha’s Pet producers a decision will be made very soon.

His lawyer, Chris Tavares-Finson, issued a plea to Kartel's fans and people who had contracted the artiste.

"Let me ask Mr Palmer's legion of fans and anyone who has any contractural arrrangement with him to be patient for at least another 48 hours so we can get a full understanding of the magnitude of the situation," said Tavares-Finson.

Mavado Court Set for 2012

Dancehall singjay Mavado is to return to court next year where his charges of malicious destruction of property and assault are set for mention.  Mavado appeared before the Montego Bay R-M Court earlier this week, after the case was put off to facilitate the addition of a medical certificate to the case file.

Mavado’s lawyer Martyn Thomas says that the entertainer is set to return to court on February 6 and 7 in 2012. Thomas also said that the court was made aware that the complainant and a man called Bennett have been calling his office requesting numbers for Mavado. Subsequently, the court was asked to inform the police that the complainant and his friend should no longer call Mavado’s lawyer’s office as it could interfere with the process.

Meanwhile, Mavado’s bail was extended and he was sent home.

All this stems from an incident near Anchovy, St James on July 22. Reports are that at about 7:00 p.m. Mavado assaulted a man and damaged his Toyota Camry motor vehicle along the Belmont main road in St. James. The complainant allegedly stopped along the main road to allow a line of traffic to pass when he and his son were reportedly attacked by Mavado and members of his entourage.

Kartel Inna Hott Water!!! Also Some Pics Of His Skin Transformation

Vybz Kartel is to undergo a preliminary round of interrogation by detectives from the Flying Squad today.

The deejay, along with two men and a woman who were in his company, were arrested and charged with possession of ganja early yesterday morning at a hotel in New Kingston after cops armed with a warrant found a small quantity of ganja inside the room.

He was taken to houses, in Norbrook and Havendale in St Andrew and Portmore, St Catherine where members of the Caribbean Search Centre searched the premises. Several items were seized by the cops.

Police sources indicate that a body was found in the house at Havendale which the artist frequents regularly.

"The entertainer will remain in custody as he is being questioned in connection with a matter, details of which the police cannot reveal at this time," said head of the Central Investigation Bureau, Ealan Powell.

Powell said the searches were part of a larger investigation in a case with which they believe Kartel could be connected. Police said the details of investigations would be revealed early next week.

Attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, who represents the deejay, said his client was informed of his rights and told to co-operate with the police, who are expected to begin questioning him on Monday.

Jamaica WINS 4X100m Relay, Setting World Record!!!

Associated Press

DAEGU, South Korea -- In one whirlwind week, Usain Bolt turned the biggest disappointment of his career into another golden show capped with a world record even he believed was not within him this year.

After opening with a false start in 100 final last Sunday, Usain Bolt again produced the amazing in his closing race of the world championships -- anchoring Jamaica to a world record in the 4x100-meter relay.

When the first three runners passed the baton, Bolt seized the moment.

"I said, 'Why not give my all.' I kept saying: 'I can do this. I can do this," he said. And when Bolt is convinced, the clock usually obliges.

Fittingly, Jamaica's yellow-green-and-black flag was the last one rising into the night over Daegu Stadium, and Bolt spread his giant arms wide to soak in the occasion.

"For me, it was just to go out there fast," Bolt said. "We did just that."

One day after winning gold in the 200, Bolt was devastating down the home stretch of the relay and threw his yellow-clad chest across the line for a time of 37.04 seconds -- the only world record in nine days of competition.

"This record was a great achievement," Bolt said. "I finished the championships on a good note so I'm proud of myself."

There was none of the performance anxiety that pushed him into a false start in the 100, only a sheer release of power as he coasted down the stretch for an overwhelming win over France and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

He came looking for the same three gold medals he won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2009 world championships but left with only two and a world record.

The United States was out of it because of a botched exchange, but no one could have gotten close to a Jamaican team anchored by Bolt.

Ahead of the race, Bolt was already slapping the "JAM" on his bib in pride, and in a season where he was far from his best, he came through with a world record.

He got all the help he needed from his three teammates -- a lightning start from Nesta Carter and a good handover to Michael Frater before Jamaica's golden duo was up. Yohan Blake, the 100 champion in Bolt's absence, powered through the final bend, with Bolt already getting his giant stride going before he took the baton.

Charges Dropped Against Mavado!!!

David Brooks aka Mavado attended St Ann’s Bay RM court this morning to answer a charge of Malicious Destruction of Property, laid against him two weeks ago.

Mavado maintained his innocence from day one and since he was charged it came to light that the complainant who’s property was damaged never gave a statement accusing Mavado of damaging property. In fact, Mavado should never have been charged.  David Brooks was called to the witness box first thing as court opened and the Judge immediately issued a No Order in the matter.“Mr Brooks, you are free to go,” instructed the RM.

Mavado wasnt even on the stand for 30 seconds. The complainant indicated that she could not proceed against Mavado as that is not the statement she gave and case was dismissed.

“I am relieved its over at the first appearance,” said Mavado. “But i am not surprised. I was surprised when i was charged, but I knew the truth would come to light and I would be quickly vindicated. Although it appears at times we get a fight I had to keep faith that the Jamaican justice system would rightly set me free. I damaged nothing or no-one so I just remained confident with that knowledge. To God be the glory.”

Mavado intends to continue trodding the positive path he has been on for the longest while, with new releases and videos coming soon. The video for smash hit Delilah will be shot next week.  Mavado is also planning a fundraiser for the Maxfield Park Childrens Home, a cause he has taken up recently.

"Super Heavy" New Band with Jr Gong, Mick Jagger & Joss Stone

Triple Grammy award winning artiste Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley is now a member of the newly formed band Super Heavy.

The other members of the band include Mick Jagger, who is best known as the lead vocalist of rock band, The Rolling Stones, 'The Soul Sessions' singer Joss Stone, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and Indian musician and producer AR Rahman.

According to an article on cnn.com the group got its start two years ago when Stewart contacted Jagger from his home in Jamaica and the two did some brainstorming and settled on the above-mentioned members.
The band has since then been recording together over the past 18 months after meeting at a Los Angeles studio. At that time they were just 'jamming and making a noise' but from that encounter the band's name was also born.
Jagger said it was from Marley's vocals of 'heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy, super heavy' that the name came forth.
He is also confident that The Rolling Stones fans will embrace the group.
There are currently no plans for Super Heavy to go on the road for performances as they are still experimenting with their sound.

The group's debut LP album is being planned for around September.

SOCIAL NETWORKING Rape Case - 16yr old blackmailed into repeated sex acts.

The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court will on June 7 inquire into the circumstances which led to the man being slapped with three counts of rape and two counts of being in possession of child pornography.
Yesterday, the accused had his bail extended when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.
According to court documents, the accused and the teenager met in January 2010 on the social networking site "Tagged". After developing a friendship the two met in March and reportedly had consensual sexual intercourse at the accused's house in St Catherine.

Sometime after, it is being alleged, the accused contacted the complainant and asked her to meet him, but when she refused, he threatened to post the naked photos of her, which she had previously shared with her ex-boyfriend while they were together.

The complainant reportedly met with the accused on three separate occasions during which time she was allegedly forced into having sex with him against her will.  The teenager eventually told her mother about what was happening and they both went to report the matter to Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID) on December 4. While in the process of reporting the matter, the accused allegedly contacted the teenage girl and demanded to see her.

Arrangements were made for them to meet on January 3 at a popular fast food restaurant in downtown Kingston. The accused was arrested after being spotted in a motorcar at the location.

Drake Has Lots To Learn About Jamaica & Dancehall...Besides Just Hitchin Onto Movado.

A concert Drake gave in Jamaica was cut short by authorities, who accused the rapper of using obscene language.

Drizzy made a surprise appearance early this week at the Brit Jam festival in Montego Bay. However, the Young Money star stopped the show after he received a reprimand from a police officer. Drake tested out his Jamaican accent and said, “Everywhere me go, me seh Jamaica to the blood clot world”.

Though the rapper could have been arrested for the offense, he simply stopped the show after authorities intervened and there were no further issues.

“Yes they shot Wyclef and he’s in the hospital and he’ll be fine. They just shot his hand,” tweeted Pras. “Everyone can relax Wyclef is fine… They can’t stop us not one bullet or a machine gun!!!!!!!”

The shooting comes on the eve of the presidential elections in Haiti. Jean is supporting fellow Haitian musician Michel Martelly.

Jamaican Government Expresses Concern For Japan.

Source: Jamaica Observer

PRIME Minister Bruce Golding has expressed concern at the safety of Jamaicans living in Japan after the tsunami that devastated the Asian country today.

Japanese police have announced that 200-300 bodies have just been found in a northeastern coastal area. Earlier today authorities said at least 40 people were killed and 39 missing.

"Jamaica has had long, strong and very close ties with the people of Japan. There are several Jamaican nationals working and studying there so we are deeply concerned about their safety. We pray for all the people of Japan that they will be kept safe and that the rescue operations by international community will be as successful as is humanly possible," Golding said in a statement moments ago.

The prime minister added that he hoped that rescue efforts being offered by the international community will help keep the death toll to a minimum and save lives still under threat.

The 8.9 offshore earthquake, which is is the biggest to have hit Japan’s northeast coast, this morning triggering a 7-metre tsunami that swept away buildings, ships and cars.

The quake was followed by at least 19 aftershocks, most of them of more than magnitude 6.0. The death toll is likely to continue climbing given the scale of the disaster.

Dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometre) stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometres) from the epicentre.

Tsunami waves have since hit Hawaii and are sweeping through the island chain after an earthquake in Japan sparked evacuations throughout the Pacific and as far as the US western coast.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said Kauai was the first island hit early Friday by the tsunami. Water rushed ashore in Honolulu, swamping the beach in Waikiki and surging over the break wall in the world-famous resort but stopping short of the area's high-rise hotels.

Waves at least 3 feet (a metre) high were recorded on Oahu and Kauai, and officials warned that the waves would continue and could become larger.

"Follow Di Arrow" - The Other Story

Since all anyone can talk about is the staged/planned bottling that occured at "Follow Di Arrow" courtesy Kartel & the Gaza "Sheep"(Kartel refers to his fans as this).  I figured I'd post this review from the Jamaica Observer on some of the other acts.  Also here is a re-post of Assassin's performance....I'll post the other artist as I find them.

FOLLOW DI ARROW

THIS year’s staging of Magnum Follow Di Arrow, may have descended into anarchy with bottles being hurled, stampedes and the sound of gunshots being fired during Bounty Killer’s set. However, prior to the melee, the thousands who were gathered at the James Bond Beach in St Mary saw some marvellous performances from some of dancehall’s finest.

The show truly got going with the cultural segment. Teflon, Louie Culture and George Nooks all served up their usual brand of strong performances. Then came the veteran and lyrical Coco Tea. Not only a hit among the men, but the ladies adored him as he delivered 18 and over, love me truly, here I am, been around the world to name a few. From one veteran came another — Josey Wales. Looking dapper in brown, Wales had the crowd in a laughing frenzy delivering Love Triangle a song directed at Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and D’Angel’s relationship. The singer even dug deeper into his musical legacy with songs like Undercover Lover, Cowboy Style and Bobo Dread.

The ‘Outlaw’ even taunted with the likes of Vybz Kartel and Mavado referring to them as Vibes Cartoon and Mofrado.

However, the startime segment of the show clearly belonged to I-Octane. Before he was even visible to the thousands at the venue the air was filled with fireworks. The screams were almost deafening as Octane having the crowd’s undivided attention delivered a string of hits including My life, Puff it, Lose a friend and Badda Dan Dem with fast rising singjay Zamunda.

Future Fambo rocked centrestage delivering Drunken Dance, Rum and Red Bull, Swag to name a few. Mr Lexx, Twin of Twins, Hero, Captain Barkley and Wickerman and a fire burning Fantan Mojah also left a lasting impression on patrons at James Bond Beach.

As the light of day approached the ladies were left smiling by Gyptian who of course performed Beautiful Lady, Mama Don’t Cry, Na Let Go and Hold You to thousands of screaming fans. As anticipated fiery performances were given by Anthony B and Sizzla.

DJ Face led the pack of females to take to the stage. The raunchy lyricist delivered a tight set again throwing lyrical blows at MC Nuffy, Queen Paula, Macka Diamond and other entertainers that she had on her to do list. Halfway through her performance, Face introduced to the Follow the Arrow crowd to upcoming female artiste Mumselle who failed to leave a good imprint. Other females artistes including D’Angel, Stacious and Macka Diamond were also well received by the Follow Di Arrow audience.

Alliance & Empire Supporters Put Others In Danger: Assassin Performance(Video)

THE throwing of bottles and stones as well as the sound of gunshots yesterday morning forced Jamaican dancehall deejays 'Bounty Killer' and 'Vybz Kartel' to run for cover, while patrons attending the 'Magnum Follow Di Arrow' stage show sought refuge under the stage, behind speaker boxes and other places they thought safe as the popular event ended in chaos.

A pregnant woman was among dozens of screaming patrons injured during the incident but it was not clear what their conditions were up to press time last night.

Frightened patrons cover for safety during yesterday’s stone and bottle-throwing incident during the Magnum Follow Di Arrow stage show at James Bond Beach in St Mary.

A member of the security team argues with deejay Bounty Killer (second left) when the artiste arrived yesterday morning at the James Bond Beach to perform at the Magnum Follow Di Arrow stage show.

Bounty, who had exited the stage for just a few seconds when the missiles first started taking aim at the stage, made a brave return, shouting "Mi na run after mi na play dandy shandy" (a game played by children). However, just after the 'announcement' the deejay and members of his Alliance team were seen running for cover.

DJ Sunshine who was seen cowering on the stage was 'saved' when someone used a chair to protect her head, while MC Ragashanti (Dr Kingsley Stewart), who minutes before was urging the crowd to "stay calm" had to beat a hasty retreat as bottles pelted the stage.

It was not clear if the police were the ones firing during the melee.

The show, held at the James Bond Beach in St Mary, was going well until a brief appearance by the controversial Bounty Killer (Rodney Price) at minutes to 5:00 am after MC Ragashanti announced that the Anger Management Band would be making its way centre stage in preparation for "the final chapter of the morning's show". Some patrons were expecting a clash between Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel, while others just wanted the chance to see the two deejays in action. At the entrance of the VIP gate a verbal clash suddenly turned physical between members of Bounty Killer's Alliance and members of the security forces after team members allegedly tried to force their way backstage. Bounty and a few members of his team were eventually allowed access to the stage, but not before the artiste was shoved with a baton by a security personnel. Another member of the Alliance team was also physically abused by a security personnel.

Despite the fuss, MC Ragashanti encouraged the dancehall artiste to take the stage when about two minutes into his performance he began criticising a newspaper report that spoke of a possible clash between himself and his rival Vybz Kartel, then the missiles started flying.

Deejay Vybz Kartel (Adidja Palmer), who appeared on the stage when the throwing stopped for a few minutes himself had to take cover as the throwing of bottles again started. "Weh mi Gaza fan dem deh!" shouted Kartel as he took the microphone, much to the surprise of many as most people had believed that the show had ended. Approximately 15 seconds later Kartel, too, had to run for safety.

The bottle throwing got worse, and during a stampede, tears rolled down the faces of a few women huddled together and blood and open wounds could be seen on the bodies of some.

Last night, the show's sponsor — Magnum — condemned what it said was the action of a few who "caused the inconvenience of many. The 2011 staging of Magnum Follow Di Arrow started with 'positive vibes', leading to several excellent performances, supported by equally good production. However, the 'positive vibes' were shattered when an unfortunate incident led to the end of what could have been the best Magnum Follow Di Arrow to date."

Magnum said that following discussions with both the promoters and the security forces they could not confirm any reports of injuries requiring medical attention.

Magnum, however, said "positive dancehall" must be supported and we vowed to continue supporting "the best that dancehall has to offer".
